How Product Compliance Testing Works

From sample intake to certified product, compliance testing follows a repeatable process. These six steps cover most electronics and wireless exports.

  1. 1

    Scope & sample intake

Confirm target markets and product category; map mandatory standards (e.g., EU RED 2014/53/EU, US FCC Part 15, battery UN 38.3).

  2. 2

    Pre-compliance screening

Run EMC, RF and safety pre-tests to catch non-conformities before the formal campaign and avoid rework.

  3. 3

    Accredited conformance testing

An accredited lab (CNAS / CMA / ILAC-MRA) executes the formal test plan against the declared standards.

  4. 4

    Technical file & test report

Compile the technical construction file, BOM and circuit data, and obtain the signed test report.

  5. 5

    Declaration & marking

Sign the Declaration of Conformity and apply the required market marking (CE / FCC / UKCA).

  6. 6

    Market-surveillance readiness

Retain the technical file and reports for authority audit (commonly 10 years in the EU).

Anatomy of a Compliance Certificate

A unique report ID and issue date, used for traceability and review.
Applicant & manufacturer

Product / model
Exact model name and hardware / firmware version of the tested sample.
Standards & clauses
Norms applied, e.g., EN 62368-1 (safety), EN 300 328 (RF), with clause references.
Results & verdict
