What this standard covers and how we test it
DENAN, marked PSE, is the Japanese safety route for electrical appliances under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Act. The shape of the mark matters: the round PSE mark covers the non-specified categories, while the diamond mark covers the specified ones where a third-party conformity assessment is mandatory before the product can be sold.
What the assessment looks at:
- Leakage current, electric strength and insulation resistance at the declared rating
- Temperature rise and abnormal operation - motor stall, short circuit, blocked ventilation
- Mechanical strength of the enclosure, cord anchorage and plug dimensions
- Marking: PSE symbol, notifier name, rated voltage and the importer of record
The filing itself is held by the Japanese importer, so we prepare the test report and the factory inspection record in the format METI notifiers accept, and the certificate is issued in your importer's name.
We normally test DENAN PSE together with Japan DENAN Law: one sample set, one set of test dates, and a single report pack that the declaration of conformity can reference.
