What this standard covers and how we test it

The 5 GHz band is shared with radar and satellite services, so EN 301 893 adds Dynamic Frequency Selection and Transmit Power Control to the usual RF measurements. DFS is where most projects lose time: the device must recognise a radar pattern inside a defined time, leave the channel, and stay off it for the whole non-occupancy period.

The test plan usually contains:

  • RF power, power spectral density and unwanted emissions in the 5 GHz band
  • DFS detection probability, channel move time and non-occupancy period
  • Transmit power control tolerance, and receiver blocking
  • Adaptivity and duty cycle for the 5150-5350 MHz sub-band

DFS needs a radar generator and a quiet chamber, so we book a full-day slot and hand over the raw detection logs - notified bodies ask for them during RED review.

We normally test EN 301 893 together with EU 2014/53/EU (RED): one sample set, one set of test dates, and a single report pack that the declaration of conformity can reference.
