What this standard covers and how we test it
EN 301 489-1 holds the common EMC requirements that apply to every radio device: emissions that could disturb other receivers, and immunity to the environment the product will meet in use. It is cited under article 3.1(b) of the Radio Equipment Directive and is always applied together with the product-specific part, for example -17 for 2.4 GHz wideband equipment.
Because the radio is both an aggressor and a victim, the device runs in its worst-case transmit mode during the whole sequence:
- Radiated and conducted emissions from the transmitter and its digital circuitry
- Electrostatic discharge, radiated RF immunity, EFT/burst, surge and conducted disturbances
- Voltage dips and short interruptions on the AC or DC input
- Performance criteria A/B/C recorded per port and per operating mode
A device that only idles in its default mode usually has to be re-measured, so we agree the test software with your firmware team before the slot is booked.
We normally test EN 301 489-1 together with EU 2014/53/EU (RED): one sample set, one set of test dates, and a single report pack that the declaration of conformity can reference.
