Case Study: TWS Earbuds Certified for EU, US and China in One Campaign
A consumer audio brand needed CE RED, FCC ID and SRRC for a new TWS earbud line ahead of a simultaneous launch in Europe, North America and China. Sequential certification would have taken 10–12 weeks. We compressed the programme into five.
Challenge
The earbuds combine Bluetooth 5.3, a 2.4 GHz proprietary link and USB-C charging. Each market has different limits and documentation, and the launch date was fixed by a retail commitment. The client also needed Bluetooth BQB listing before using the Bluetooth trademark.
Approach
- Unified scoping — we mapped one test plan covering EN 300 328, EN 301 489, EN 62368-1, FCC Part 15.247/15.407 and the SRRC requirements, plus BQB qualification.
- Single campaign — RF, EMC, safety and audio measurements were executed once on the same golden samples, generating data for all three markets.
- Parallel filings — while the SRRC report was in MIIT review, the FCC report was filed through our TCB partner and BQB listing was submitted to the Bluetooth SIG.
- Pre-scan first — an early pre-scan caught a spurious emission margin issue, which was fixed in firmware before formal testing — avoiding a retest cycle.
Results
| Milestone | Sequential (est.) | Combined campaign |
|---|---|---|
| Testing complete | 6 weeks | 3 weeks |
| All approvals granted | 10–12 weeks | 5 weeks |
| Testing cost | Baseline | ≈70% of baseline |
The client met the retail launch window in all three markets and used the same test data for follow-up SKUs, further reducing certification cost per product.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can any product combine CE, FCC and SRRC?
Most wireless products can. The deciding factors are shared radio technologies, final firmware and antennas, and whether each market's documentation can be produced from the same measurements — we confirm during scoping.
What if one market fails?
Failures are contained: the other filings continue in parallel, and remediation plus a delta retest only affects the failing market, not the whole programme.
Does combining certifications compromise report quality?
No. Each report is issued against the specific market's standards and limits; only the underlying measurement campaign is shared.
