SRRC Type Approval Guide: Entering the China Market with Wireless Products
SRRC (State Radio Regulation Committee) type approval — administered through MIIT — is mandatory for radio transmission equipment sold or used in mainland China. This guide covers who needs it, how the approval works and how to combine it with CE and FCC testing.
Which Products Need SRRC?
Any equipment that transmits radio signals requires SRRC approval: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular, Zigbee, UWB, NFC transmitters, wireless microphones, drones and IoT modules. Receiver-only devices and products below the regulated power thresholds may be exempt — we confirm applicability during scoping.
Approval Route and Testing
| Stage | What happens | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Submit product and company documentation to a MIIT-recognised testing laboratory | 2–3 working days |
| Testing | RF, EMC and protocol tests per applicable Chinese standards | 1–2 weeks |
| MIIT review | Test report submitted to MIIT for approval | 4–8 weeks |
| Certificate | SRRC certificate issued with CMIIT ID for labelling | — |
Combining SRRC with CE and FCC
Because SRRC shares measurement principles with FCC and RED, a single test campaign in our lab can generate data for all three — saving samples, shipping and calendar time. This is our multi-country transfer service: one golden sample, three sets of reports.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does SRRC approval take?
Testing takes 1–2 weeks; MIIT review typically adds 4–8 weeks. The certificate is valid for five years and renewable.
Can a foreign company apply for SRRC?
Yes, through a Chinese legal entity or agent — the certificate is issued to a Chinese-registered applicant. We guide the documentation through our partner network.
What is the CMIIT ID?
The CMIIT ID is the approval number printed on the product or packaging after the certificate is issued. Selling radio equipment in China without it is illegal.
Do modules still need SRRC?
Some certified modules allow end products to inherit approval, but many categories still require device-level SRRC. We verify module coverage during scoping.
