What this standard covers and how we test it
EN 55024 was the immunity standard for information technology equipment and was replaced by EN 55035 in 2017. The list of phenomena survived almost unchanged, but EN 55035 widened the scope to multimedia equipment and aligned the performance criteria with the approach already used for audio and video products.
The phenomena it defined:
- ESD, radiated RF, EFT/burst, surge and conducted disturbances induced by RF fields
- Voltage dips and short interruptions, judged with criteria B and C
- Power-frequency magnetic field immunity
- Performance criteria declared per function, not per product
A product tested to EN 55024 is not automatically compliant with EN 55035: the port definitions and the wording of the criteria changed. The file needs a gap assessment, which we can usually do from the existing report without new measurements.
We normally test EN 55024 together with EU 2014/30/EU (EMC): one sample set, one set of test dates, and a single report pack that the declaration of conformity can reference.
